Success can be intoxicating, but for some, it’s the first step toward a steep fall. That’s the central message in Starring, the new single by Matlou Matlou

LIMPOPO – Local musicians Matlou Matlou, Mr Tsebe May Selector , and Bayor97 have teamed up to release Starring, a single that blends Bolo House and soft Lekompo.

Matlou Matlou is a known for his work in the Limpopo music scene. He has released several singles and collaborated with various artists.

Some of her notable works include  “Kelapile” and “Dipakilwe“, He is also known for songs like “Ke Maratong” and “Nthlale” and the recently released hit song “Starring“.

Released under Matlou Muzik, Starring is told from the perspective of a former best friend of a man who once enjoyed wealth, influence, and admiration in his community.

The track tells a cautionary tale about pride, friendship, and the fall from grace.

Matlou says the song is about how success led to arrogance and disrespect.

The man is described as having mocked his peers, calling them “small boys” and turning others into errand runners, nicknaming them “ice boys.” Women, wealth, and vanity became his main priorities, while genuine friendships faded. We were right there. We saw the change in him,” Matlou said.

“But sometimes, when someone is too deep into that world, there’s not much you can say. You watch. You learn.”

Now, the character in the song is portrayed as broke and forgotten and a reminder that “money without character will only take you so far.”

Mr Tsebe delivers the hook with a blend of sarcasm and sadness, while Bayor97 keeps the beat steady, ensuring the lyrics remain the focus.

“This isn’t just music, it’s a warning, a conversation, and a memory,” Matlou added.
