Social grant payments to increase by R10
Social grant payment amounts are set to increase by R10 in the October 2025 payment cycle in line with the announcement made by the Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana in the Budget Speech earlier this year.
“The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) wishes to inform all social grant beneficiaries that social grant amounts will increase in the October payment cycle.
This is in line with the announcement made by the Minister of Finance earlier this year when he tabled the Budget Speech for the 2025/26 financial year,” SASSA said in a statement on Thursday.
In tabling the Budget Speech, Godongwana announced a considerable social grant increase from 01 April 2025 and a slight increase on 01 October 2025.

The social grant amounts will be increased by R10 in October as follows:
• Old Age Grants will increase from R2310 to R2320
• Old Age Grants (older than 75 years) will increase from R2330 to R2340
• War Veterans Grant will increase R2330 to R2340
• Disability Grant will increase from R2310 to R2320
• Care Dependency Grant will increase from R2310 to R2320
SASSA CEO, Themba Matlou, welcomed the social grant increase noting that the adjustment is crucial.
“This reaffirms government’s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable in society, easing financial burden and cushioning them against economic hardships,” said Matlou.
He further reiterated that it is all systems go for the October payment cycle and that all eligible social grant beneficiaries will receive their grants without any interruption.
Social grant payments for October 2025 will be processed as follows:
• Old Age Grant will be paid on 02 October
• Disability Grants will be paid on 03 October
• Children’s Grants will be paid on 06 October
SASSA Terminates Master Services Agreement with Postbank
Meanwhile, the North Gauteng High Court has dismissed Postbank’s urgent bid to halt the termination of its Master Services Agreement (MSA) with the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).
The ruling, delivered by Judge Colleen Collis, found no urgency in the matter, as Postbank had been aware of Sassa’s intent to terminate the agreement since March 2024.
Sassa welcomed the outcome, assuring millions of beneficiaries that their payments will not be disrupted.
“We are happy with the judgment, and we would like to once more emphasise that all the eligible grant beneficiaries with accounts at Postbank will continue receiving their grants,” said Sassa CEO Themba Matlou.
He stressed that under the Social Assistance Act, beneficiaries are free to choose their bank accounts, and the end of the MSA will not affect deposits into Postbank accounts.
Matlou reaffirmed Sassa’s commitment to protecting beneficiaries and strengthening payment processes.
“All the decisions that we take are in the best interest of our beneficiaries, and we do this to safeguard the rights of social grant beneficiaries as best as we can,” he added.

Postbank, however, voiced concern over the implications of the judgment.
CEO Nikki Mbengashe said the ruling “offers insufficient relief to the millions of social grant beneficiaries whose livelihoods and rights will be impacted by the termination of the MSA.”
She warned that without urgent intervention before 30 September 2025, the constitutional rights of beneficiaries could be at risk.
Despite the setback, Mbengashe assured beneficiaries that payments will continue uninterrupted.
“We assure the public and all social grant beneficiaries paid with our black cards and Sassa gold cards that no beneficiary will go unpaid,” she said.
Postbank emphasised its ongoing mandate to serve the most vulnerable and safeguard their access to grants.
