Former Limpopo Home Affairs Officials Granted Bail in Fraud Case

The Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested three suspects aged between 37 and 57 in connection with fraud charges relating to the irregular issuing of identity documents to unqualified illegal immigrants.

The arrests stem from complaints received on 26 June 2024 and 23 August 2024 by an investigator at the Department of Home Affairs.

An official from the Senwamokgope Home Affairs office reported that the two females and one male had allegedly issued Identity Books to unqualified illegal immigrants without following the correct legal procedures.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba the matter was referred to the Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit which launched a thorough investigation. 

“Following thorough investigations registered at Sekgosese Police Station in Mopani District, the cases were forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for decision, resulting in warrants being issued against all three suspects,” he said

The accused, Jackson Mashapa Mantlhakga (37), Elisabeth Motshidisi Mokoena (41) and Masesi Yvonne Lebisi (57), appeared before the Senwamokgope Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 22 May 2025.

During court proceedings, the case against Mokoena was withdrawn pending further police investigation.

Mantlhakga and Lebisi were each granted bail of R2,000, with the matter postponed to 4 August 2025 for further proceedings.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the diligent work of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit.

Meanwhile, at Groblersdal and Marble Hall Policing areas in the Sekhukhune district, between Wednesday, 21 May and Thursday, 22 May 2025, led to the arrest of 161 undocumented foreign nationals.

The suspects were arrested at Maleoskop (old Police training college), Aquaville informal settlement in Groblersdal, and in Marble Hall town, as part of the ongoing operations to fight against any criminal activities in the province. 

All the undocumented foreigners were deported to their countries of origin, being Mozambique: 35 males and females including children, and 126 males and females from Zimbabwe, also including their children.
