Limpopo SAPS has issued a stern warning against the dissemination of threats, regarding potential shutdowns circulating on social media platforms.
The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said that she assures the residents of Limpopo, particularly in the affected areas namely, Seshego, Mankweng, Lebowakgomo and Matlala that SAPS is closely monitoring these developments and is on high alert for any eventualities that may arise.
The total shutdown comes after Polokwane Executive Mayor John Mpe’s failure to deliver on promises made during a stakeholder meeting regarding addressing nepotism in the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) recruitment processes, status report on local projects, service delivery and water crisis.
The protesters are expected to march to the municipal offices to submit a memorandum of demands, which reportedly calls for an improvement in service delivery.
The Provincial Commissioner further encouraged members of the community to continue with their normal duties without fear of being intimidated or attacked.
“Law enforcement agencies are prepared to deal decisively and harshly with any individuals found responsible for instigating or participating in activities aimed at disrupting public order and safety. The SAPS will utilize all available resources to maintain law and order and ensure the protection of citizens and property,” stated Lieutenant General Hadebe.
