ANCYL Limpopo Member Nkateko Mbhoma Shot Dead
African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) member of their Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) in Limpopo Nkateko Mbhoma was shot and killed in the early hours of Tuesday.
The vehicle in which Mbhoma and other members were travelling in was shot at in Leeudoringstad, outside Klerksdorp.
It is reported that they were traveling to Kimberley for the second National General Council (NGC) which will be held in Kimberley from September 10 to 13.
ANCYL Spokesperson Zama Khanyase said the ANCYL condemns in the strongest terms the scourge of violent crime which continues to claim the lives of innocent South Africans. He siad this act as a form of intimidation meant to frighten young people from participating in radical politics.
“Criminality has no place in our society, and we call on law enforcement agencies to act with urgency to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and face the full might of the law. Justice must prevail. As the youth league, we remain resolute in our call for safer communities, decisive action against crime, and the protection of young leaders who continue to serve the people of South Africa,” Khanyase said

ANCYL President Collen Malatji says the murder was not politically motivated and that the incident was pure criminality and investigations will be able to shed light on what happened.
“The young man was a committed member of the ANCYL who was travelling from Limpopo to Kimberley to be part of a historic moment in the Northern Cape and to help re-shape the country,” Malatji said.
“Illegal miners are a problem, and others suspect that it could be taxi patrols that don’t allow mini-bus taxis to ferry passengers. But we can only speak on facts. There is a lot of speculation and the matter is under investigation. We extend our condolences to the family.”
He added that crime would be a priority item on the national general council agenda.
“Crime is serious and affects everyone – members of the ANCYL and the community. It is an urgent matter that needs to be attended to by the president. We need to take action and cannot surrender this country to criminals or lawlessness ,” Malatji stated.
