Jub Jub Rape, Attempted Murder and Assault Charges Withdrawn
The state has officially withdrawn criminal charges against rapper and TV presenter Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye, citing insufficient prospects for a successful prosecution.
The NPA in a media statement on Thursday said the decision followed careful consideration of the police case docket, the prosecutor’s report and recommendations, coupled with information that was made available to the the institution through representations submitted by the defence to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Maarohanye, who had been facing charges including rape, attempted murder, and assault, received notice of the decision through a letter dated June 20 from acting deputy director of public prosecution in Joburg, TJ Mbodi.
Confirming the decision, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said that there are no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution and the sensible thing to do was to withdraw the charges.
“After consideration of the case docket, the report from the prosecutor and the representations lodged to the director of public prosecution’s office, the office came to a conclusion that there are no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution and the sensible thing to do was to withdraw the charges against Molemo Marrohanye.”

The decision follows earlier accusations against Maarohanye by TV personality and businesswoman Amanda du Pont, who alleged that he had admitted to raping her.
These allegations gained public attention after Du Pont shared them in a video posted on her Instagram account, responding to comments Maarohanye made during an interview with podcaster Mac G where he had boasted about their past relationship.
Du Pont had submitted a statement to the police in support of a rape case she filed against Maarohanye at the Brixton police station in Johannesburg in 2022.
Maarohanye has not publicly commented on the withdrawal of charges at this time.
